Part of the fun of homeschooling is all the field trips my kids and I take. We try to go out as often as possible to any number of places that give a hands-on, visual, and educational experience and always have a lot of fun.  

There are so many fantastic places in our area Upstate SC area that offer Homeschool Days specifically for homeschooling families. I put them together here to help all of us homeschoolers have some options for extending learning beyond the home environment.

Wilderness at the Smokies

Biltmore

Homeschool Days at the Biltmore include storytelling, learning about artifacts and what it was like to live and work at the estate in the early 1900s. 

Homeschool days:  August 31, September 1, September 8, September 9, September 15, September 16, September 22, September 23, September 29, and September 30, 2022
Times: There are two 90 minute sessions, morning and afternoon, to choose from. Fall 2022 topics are The Vanderbilts at Home (10–11:30 am) and A Vanderbilt House Party (1–2:30 pm).
Cost: You must have a ticket to do one of these programs. You can choose a Biltmore Grounds and Estate ticket, which is $22/5-16 years old and $44/adult, or a Biltmore House and Grounds ticket, which is $33.50/5-16 years old and $67/adult. Both options include participation in one homeschool day plus the option to add a second participant for $15. If you have an annual pass, you don’t need to pay for an adult ticket if you don’t want to participate but you will be charged for student tickets.

Stewart Farms

Stewart Farms in Enoree offers a pumpkin patch, hayrides, a honeybee observatory, storytelling, and corn maize during their fall homeschool day. 

Homeschool day: September 27 and 28, 2022
Time: 9 am – 1 pm
Cost: Maize-only field trip is $6/person, Pumpkin patch trip is $9/person. A combo ticket is $13/person.
